1. About Faculty of Geographical Science
Established in November 2016, the Faculty of Geographical Science (FGS) originated from the History and Geography Section in the Education Department of the Imperial University of Peking in 1902. With more than 100 years’ history, FGS is dedicated to being at the forefront of teaching and learning and fostering cutting edge research and discovery as well as contributing to social services in Geography and is top in China (ranked No.1 in 2016 national discipline evaluation) and enjoys a good reputation internationally(ranked No. 51-100, QS Ranking 2021). With Geographical Science as the core discipline, FGS also covers related disciplines as Remote Sensing Science and Technology.
FGS comprises 6 secondary institutions, including the School of Geography, School of Natural Resources, Institute of Remote Sensing Science and Engineering, Institute of Land Surface Systems and Sustainable Development, Centre for GeoData and Analysis as well as Institute of Disaster Reduction and Emergency Management. FGS is also supporting the running of the State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Resource Ecology as well as the State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science.
FGS is one of the National Research and Education Bases for Basic Science of Geography as well as the National Training Bases for Top-notch Students in Fundamental Disciplines of Geography. We have formed a three-dimensional and diversified undergraduate talent training model, specifically "platform-discipline-competence", and a model that is oriented to the development of multidisciplinary awareness and innovative capability for postgraduates and doctoral students.
