For the purpose of satisfying the growing demand of the international community for Chinese language teachers and facilitating Chinese language education in other countries. the Center For Language Education And Cooperation (CLEC) will continue with the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship. Confucius Institutes, independently operated Confucius Classrooms, certain HSK test centers, Chinese language (education) departments of foreign universities, professional associations for Chinese language instruction of other countries, Chinese embassies (consulates) abroad (collectively “recommending institutions”) may recommend outstanding students and currently-employed Chinese language teachers to study Chinese, International Chinese Language Education or related majors in Beijing Normal University.
As the host institution, Beijing Normal University's enrollment categories in 2021 academic year include Bachelor’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (taught at Zhuhai Campus), Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, one-academic-year study and one-semester study.
I. Eligibility
All applicants shall be:
1. non-Chinese citizens;
2. in good physical and mental conditions, and with good academic performance and conduct;
3. committed to the Chinese language education and related work;
4. between the ages of 18 and 35 (as of September 1st, 2021). Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45, while undergraduate student applicants shall not be over 25.
II. Scholarship Types and Qualifications
1. Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)
The program commences in September 2021 and provides scholarship for a maximum of 2 academic years. Applicants shall hold a Bachelor’s degree, and have a minimum score of 220 in HSK 6 as well as 65 in HSKK (Advanced Level). Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or a proof to the same effect.
2. Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL) (taught at Zhuhai Campus)
The program commences in September 2021 and provides scholarship for a maximum of 4 academic years. Applicants shall hold a senior high school diploma and a minimum score of 210 in HSK 4 as well as 60 in HSKK (Intermediate Level).
3. Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study
The program commences in September 2021, and provides scholarship for a maximum of 11 months. International students currently studying in China are not eligible.
(1) TCSOL
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK 4 as well as 60 in HSKK (Intermediate Level)..
(2) Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy, etc.
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK 5 and 60 in HSKK (Intermediate Level).
(3) Chinese Language Study
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK 3. Priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.
4. Scholarship for One-Semester Study
The program commences either in September 2021 or March 2022, and provides scholarship of a maximum of 5 months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.
(1) TCSOL
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK 4 as well as 60 in HSKK (Intermediate Level).
(2) Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy, etc
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK 5. An HSKK test score is required.
5. Scholarship for Four-Week Study
The program commences either in July or December 2021, and provides a four-week scholarship. For Chinese language study direction, applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible. An HSK test score is required.
III. Application Deadline and Resumption Date

2. Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL) (taught at Zhuhai Campus)
Resumption date: September, 2021. Application deadline: May 15, 2021.
3. One-Academic-Year Study
Resumption date: September 2021. Application deadline: May 15, 2021.
4. One-Semester Study
Resumption date: September 2021. Application deadline: May 15, 2021.
Resumption date: March 2022. Application deadline: November 15, 2021.
IV. Application Procedures
1. Online registration will be available from March 1, 2021 on http://cis.chinese.cn. Please log on to search for recommending institutions and host institutions; upload application materials online; and track the application progress, comments and result.
2. Applicants should log on to the Beijing Normal University International Student Online Service System (http://apply.bnu.edu.cn), choose relevant program and select the department and major. Then fill in the application information, and upload the application materials. After submitting the application, applicants need to pay the application fee through online payment and then wait for the results of the initial review.
After passing the initial review in the system, download and print the completed “Beijing Normal University International Students Application Form”. After signing on the application form, please mail all application documents to Beijing Normal University (See IV. Application Documents for details).
3. After the application material have been approved by Beijing Normal University, applicants can log in to the scholarship website to view the admission process information and the scholarship evaluation results.
