1. What are the language requirements of Undergraduate Programs? Are there any majors providing English-taught classes?
Applying for majors of the School of International Chinese Language Education (including “Chinese as a Second Language ”, and “Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages”) should provide certificates of HSK Level 4 with a score of no less than 180; applying for other majors should provide certificates of HSK Level 5 with a score of no less than 180.
Applying for other majors should provide certificates of HSK Level 5 with a score of no less than 180.
At present, no English-taught courses are available for undergraduate program.
2. Do students in Undergraduate Programs take classes with Chinese students?
Majors of the “School of International Chinese Language Education” (including “Chinese as a Second Language ”, and “Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages”) are available only for international students, who will be grouped to have classes. International students applying for other majors will have classes with Chinese students.
3. What does it mean of the annotation for the major of “Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages” that students are to be cultivated in the campus of Zhuahai? Does it mean that the classes will be given in Zhuhai?
Yes. Beijing Normal University has two campuses respectively set in Beijing and Zhuhai. Classes of the major of “Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages” in Undergraduate Program will be given in Zhuhai.
In addition, the address of the Zhuhai Campus: No. 18 Jinfeng Road, Tangjiawan, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, China.
4. Can students having completed A-Level, IB, and ACT apply for the programs?
Yes. Students can apply for Undergraduate Program with the academic and examination results of A-Level, IB, and ACT.
5. I am still a senior high school student during the application and have not obtained the graduation certificate. Can I apply for the Undergraduate Program?
Yes. Applicants who apply before graduation should provide the original expected graduation certificate. Please bring the original or the notarized high school graduation certificate at the registration. International Student Office will verified the material. Applicants who fail to provide the materials mentioned above will have their admission revoked.
6. What are the majors available to apply for in Undergraduate Program? Can I transfer to other departments or majors
There are 44 majors providing in Undergraduate Program. For more details, please refer to our website (https://admission-is.bnu.edu.cn/) for the Majors Catalog of Undergraduate Program for International Students.
After admission, you can apply for the change of departments or majors according to regulations. Furthermore, examinations will be held by targeted departments for the applicants, in which the requirements of scores should be met. For more details on this issue, please consult relevant schools/departments.
7. How many prospective majors can I apply for at most?
Applicant may apply two majors. Applying “Chinese as a Second Language ” or “Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages” can apply for any other major.
8. What are the differences between the two majors “Chinese as a Second Language” and “Chinese Language and Literature”?
In terms of proficiecny of Chinese language requirements:
“Chinese as a Second Language ” major require a score of 180 in HSK4, while “Chinese Language and Literature” require a score of 180 in HSK 5.
In terms of the courses, the “Chinese as a Second Language ” accept international students only, with the courses focusing on the study of Chinese language. However, the “Chinese Language and Literature” provides classes which international students take with Chinese students, and the courses focus more on Chinese literary theories and literary cultivation.
9. Can students without a score of HSK apply for the program?
According to the official documents, students graduated from independent Chinese secondary schools of Malaysia can be exempt from HSK requirements. Otherwise, international students are required to provide the HSK scores.
10. Can students from preparatory schools of other universities in Chinese mainland apply for the programs?
Yes. These students can apply for the undergraduate programs of BNU with a certificate of studying or completion of the preparatory school; in addition, a full report of academic performances in Senior High school and preparatory school will have to be provided as well.
11. Can students graduated from Malaysia senior schools apply for the program?
Yes. Graduates of Malaysia Senior Schools should provide certificates of preparatory schools or those of STPM or A-Level; a full report of academic performances in Senior school should also be provided.
12. How much is the tuition? And when is it due?
Humanities and Social Sciences majors: ¥12400 /semester, and ¥24000/ year;
Science, Engineering and Art majors: ¥14250 / semester, and ¥27700/ year.
Tuition fees should be paid at the registration. For specific time and arrangements, please pay attention to the notices of the International Students Office of BNU.
13. Can students under 18 years old apply for the program?
Yes. Applicants who are less than 18 years of age at the time of registration have to submit the original notarization of guardian in Beijing/Guangdong depending on campus.
14. Do I have to take the exam after passing the material review? If so, when is the exam?
Yes. Having passed the material review, students still need to take the exams. Please pay constant attention to the E-mails from BNU Admission Office.
15. When can I check the admission results?
The applicant will be informed of the admission results through the application system and email from June of the year of enrollment.
