I. General Introduction
1. Different Levels of Classes & Small Class Teaching
BNU welcomes the students with any level of Chinese proficiency from all over the world. We have nine levels of classes for students to choose, ranging from beginners’ to advanced. Students will take 20 hours Chinese classes each week. Students are placed in the appropriate class after a placement test upon registration. Small-class (15-20 students) teaching is our tradition. It gives every student a opportunity to speak. We emphasize on students’ performance in the class and changing teacher-centered class to student-centered class thoroughly.
2. Strong and Committed Teachers & Full Range of Curriculum
Since the 1960s, Beijing Normal University has been carrying out the education of international students in China. It is one of the earliest universities in China to carry out the education of international students. Highly experienced and professional teachers improve students' communicative ability by practicing in listening, speaking, reading and writing, and engage students in student-centered activity. Full range of courses are provided for students, such as Chinese history, Chinese literature, Chinese geography and so on. We also offer rich elective courses to students which can stimulate students’ interests and make students have a better understanding of Chinese and Chinese culture, such as calligraphy, Kung-fu, Chinese ancient poetry and so on.
3. Entertainment & Extracurricular Activity
We offer rich extracurricular activities, such as Beijing Opera appreciation, Chinese language competition, culture tour and so on, which is a great opportunity for students to put their knowledge into practice.
II. Study Duration and Study Mode
Duration of study is one semester or one academic year. Different classes are arranged for beginners and students of advanced levels (Study in the School of International Chinese Language Education).Students will be placed in the appropriate class after a placement test upon registration.
III. Application Requirement
1. Applicants should be in good health and of good character, respect Chinese habits and customs, and abide by both Chinese Law & Regulations as well as the university’s Rules & Regulations.
2. Non-Chinese citizen holding a valid foreign passport and between 18-45 years old.
3. High school certificate or higher academic degree.
IV. Application Period
Fall Semester (starting in September 2024) : March 15, 2024 -- June 30, 2024
Spring Semester (starting in February 2024) : October 10, 2023 -- November 30, 2023
V. Application Procedures
1. Online application. Log on to Beijing Normal University Online Application System For International Students at https://international.bnu.edu.cn/, register and complete the application, upload the electronic version of the application documents according to the requirements in Part VI, and pay the application fee 450RMB.
2. Review. After submitting the application, it goes to the review process. Applicants may attend remote interview if required.
3. Print the application form. Download and print the Application Form for International Students in the Online Application System of Beijing Normal University, which is automatically generated by the system after completing the online application.
4. Mailing documents. Mail the paper version of the application documents to the Admissions Office of Beijing Normal University (International Students). Exchange students or students sent under a cooperative agreement do not need to mail paper materials.

VI. Application Materials
1. BNU Application Form for International Student. Please log on to the Beijing Normal University International Student Online Application System (https://international.bnu.edu.cn/) and fill in the form online.;
2. Authenticated/notarized copy of degree certificate or Certificate of Enrollment (must bear the true stamps documents in languages other than Chinese or English will need to be translated and notarized as well);
3. Authenticated/notarized copy of academic transcript;
4. Copy of passport. If you have Chinese Visa, a copy of the recent visa page is required;
5. Non-criminal Record. Exchange students or students sent under a cooperative agreement are not required to submit.
6. Application fee: 450 RMB (pay online). Please pay online through your personal account on Beijing Normal University International Student Online Application System (https://international.bnu.edu.cn/). Application fee can be waived for exchange students.
* All application documents must be in Chinese or English. Please provide the notarized version of documents translated to Chinese or English from other languages.
* Application documents and application fee are non-refundable. They will not be returned regardless of whether the applicant is admitted by the University.
* Copy of degree certificate of Chinese institution (only for those who are studying in China before applying for BNU).
VII. Tuition Fee (Unit: RMB)
One semester: 11600 RMB;
One academic year: 22400 RMB.
